Focusing dynamics of high-energy density, laser-driven ion beams.
The dynamics of the focusing of laser-driven ion beams produced from concave solid targets was studied. Most of the ion beam energy is observed to converge at the center of the cylindrical targets with a spot diameter of 30 μm, which can be very beneficial for applications requiring high beam energy densities. Also, unbalanced laser irradiation does not compromise the focusability of the beam....
متن کاملReplicating Nanostructures on Silicon by Low Energy Ion Beams
We report on a nanoscale patterning method on Si substrates using selfassembled metal islands and low-energy ion-beam irradiation. The Si nanostructures produced on the Si substrate have a one-to-one correspondence with the self-assembled metal (Ag, Au, Pt) nanoislands initially grown on the substrate. The surface morphology and the structure of the irradiated surface were studied by high-resol...
متن کاملHigh current proton beams production at Simple Mirror Ion Source 37.
This paper presents the latest results of high current proton beam production at Simple Mirror Ion Source (SMIS) 37 facility at the Institute of Applied Physics (IAP RAS). In this experimental setup, the plasma is created and the electrons are heated by 37.5 GHz gyrotron radiation with power up to 100 kW in a simple mirror trap fulfilling the ECR condition. Latest experiments at SMIS 37 were pe...
متن کاملHigh Energy Density Physics with Intense Ion and Laser Beams
Editorial The main event of the year 2008 for our community was undoubtedly the kick-off event for the FAIR facility, which took place in November 2008. Professor V.E. Fortov represented our community pointing out the relevance of intense heavy ion beams for high energy density physics. He emphasized that high energy density matter is essential when considering the operation of pulsed reactors ...
متن کاملLOW-ENERGY-ION ENHANCED DIFFUSION AT THE SURFACE OF METALS
Radiation enhanced diffusion at the surface of metals has been observed and studied for low-energy nitrogen ions at the surface of copper. The displacement of the target atoms during irradiation creates vacancies and other defects near the surface, thus enhancing the diffusion of implanted materials toward the surface and also into the solid. The mechanism has been studied here by a specia...
